Aimee Lou Wood has declared a truce with Saturday Night Live, telling Instagram followers that SNL apologized for the White Lotus skit that made fun of her teeth over the weekend. Confused by that sentence? Allow me to explain.
On Saturday, Saturday Night Live aired its White Lotus sketch, “White POTUS,” a political take on season 3 of the hit HBO show. Donald Trump was Timothy Ratliff, the spaced out patriarch who just lost everything, Donald Trump Jr. was Saxon, RFK Jr. was Rick, but Chelsea was just... Chelsea.
For the most part, the skit was a fun melding of pop culture and the tumultuous news stories of the week. All the jokes were at the expense of political figures—who, let's be honest, deserve it—save for one that seemed to take aim at Aimee's teeth:
“I'm having these insane ideas like, what if we took all the fluoride out of the drinking water? But what would that do to people's teeth?” RFK Jr., played by host Jon Hamm, says. The clip then cuts to SNL cast member Sarah Sherman as Chelsea, wearing exaggerated fake teeth: “Fluoride? What's that?”
Needless to say, Aimee, who less than a week ago declared she no longer wanted to talk about her teeth, was not impressed with this portrayal and took to her Instagram Stories to make her frustrations known, calling it “mean and unfunny.” A few hours later, she updated fans, saying, “I've had apologies from SNL.”
She later clarified that she isn't “thin skinned,” nor does she mind being made fun of—as long as it's “clever and in good spirits.” She continued, “But the joke was about fluoride. I have big gap teeth, not bad teeth. I don't mind caricature—I understand that's what SNL is. But the rest of the skit was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
After fans started flooding Sarah's Instagram comments, Aimee also added that she didn't want anyone attacking Sarah and was “not hating on her,” just “hating on the concept.”
A few days later, Aimee shared photos of a bouquet of flowers she received from Sarah, thanking her for the kind gesture, so it seems all is forgiven.
While many fans and celebrities, including Cara Delevingne and Jameela Jamil, have rallied around Aimee online, one particular co-star has been noticeably silent on the matter. That's right, we're talking about Walton Goggins. Amid rumors that Walton and Aimee are feuding, Walton reportedly shared “White POTUS” on his Instagram Stories praising it as “SMASHING” after Aimee had already called it out. He quietly deleted the story a few hours later.
To be fair, this doesn't appear to have been a purposeful dig at Aimee seeing as how Walton doesn't follow her on Instagram and was thus likely unaware of her objections to the sketch. So... oops, I guess?
